"Favorite Children"... photos I especially like... how they came to be/why they are special to me.

This little oak tree was planted as part of the landscaping for a new Starbucks, located appropriately enough in Oak Hill, Texas. As we go through our days, many of us don’t really see what we’re looking at. As Henry David Thoreau said, "The question is not what you look at but what you see." I might have missed this tree if I had not parked directly in front of it. I love the textures of its leaves, both on the tree and on the ground, and the rough rock face behind it. There are even a few rounded river rocks (or are they small as pebbles?) peeking out near the bottom of the frame. Would I have noticed it if it had not been changing color? Hard to say. But featuring it as a Favorite Child teaches the lesson of noting and appreciating everyday beauty, whether or not a mocha latte is involved!
