In
a world of infinite photographic possibilities, it sometimes
seems that there's nothing to take pictures of. Instead of disciplining
yourself to take another look around your own trusty backyard,
the beckoning promise of other locales encourages you to hit
the road. Driving along, hoping to see something worth making
a U turn for, is like winnowing the proverbial hay, looking
for that needle's glint. Then again, sometimes someone else
hands you an inadvertent gift. Such was the case with "Fool
The Guesser." This amazingly random still life was spotted in
the same Texas town that claims to contain the smallest Roman
Catholic church in the world. (That type of blatant opportunity
screams "Take my picture!" and here it is in the inset.) But
a mysterious sign aligned with beautiful shapes and forms in
someone else's backyard-now that is truly largesse. Possible
encounters like this one make driving with one eye on the road
and the other on the scrolling landscape worthwhile. And they
ensure that the siren song of the road will be heard again. |
